Live captions

What you say, as text on screen, worked out in your browser (nothing you say leaves your computer).

  1. Sources › + › Live captions, and place it where captions go (usually low in the picture).
  2. In its properties, choose what it listens to (the first microphone, or another sound source) and the language you speak.

The first time, flint downloads its speech model (about 43 MB, from flint.cam) and keeps it. Each phrase appears when you pause, usually a second or two later; a slower computer takes longer. Translate into English writes other languages in English.

Style it like text: font, size, colour, a box behind, how many lines show at once and how long each stays. Muting the microphone pauses the captions.

It's a small model that runs on your computer, so it mishears sometimes, especially names and noisy rooms. Chrome and Edge do it fastest.
